in bsd.autotools.mk essentially makes this a no-op given that all the
old variables set a USE_AUTOTOOLS_COMPAT variable, which is parsed in
exactly the same way as USE_AUTOTOOLS itself.
Moreover, USE_AUTOTOOLS has already been extensively tested by the GNOME
team -- all GNOME 2.12.x ports use it.
Preliminary documentation can be found at:
http://people.FreeBSD.org/~ade/autotools.txt
which is in the process of being SGMLized before introduction into the
Porters Handbook.

and new features. Don't believe me? Then see for yourself at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.12/notes/en/.
DO NOT USE portupgrade by itself to upgrade to GNOME 2.12. Instead, use
the gnome_upgrade.sh script from
http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/gnome_upgrade212.sh. This script will
circumvent some potential pitfalls users can see if they use portupgrade
by itself.
In keeping with tradition, GNOME 2.12 for FreeBSD comes with a special
splash screen. The winner of this release's contest is
Dominique Goncalves <dominique.goncalves@gmail.com>. His splash screen
was inspired by http://art.gnome.org/contests/2.12-splash/83.
The FreeBSD GNOME Team would lank to thank the following users for
their contributions to this release:

Refer to all modules using their /dist/Foo/ path instead of via
the mishmash of old author path, new author path, module documentation,
etc.
This pass brought to you by loving, painstaking hand editing.

URLs automatically rewritten from /search?dist=Foo or /dist/Foo
to /dist/Foo/ (note trailing slash). After a 2002(!) reorganization,
this is the preferred way to refer to modules on search.cpan.org.

Labels and equations are typeset with LaTeX, for high-quality
PostScript output.
A major advantage of Asymptote over other graphics packages is that
it is a programming language, as opposed to just a graphics program:
it can therefore exploit the best features of script (command-driven)
and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.

Most of maxima functions are accessible through menus, some have
dialogs. The input line has command history (up-key, down-key) and
completion based on previous input (tab-key).
wxMaxima provides 2d formated display of maxima output.

beautiful and colorful chryzodes.
If you do not know what chryzodes are, take a look at
http://www.chryzode.org/. Then you will be able to explore
the world of chryzodes by yourself using Chryzodus.
But one does not even need to know much about chryzodes
to use Chryzodus and see beautiful images appear on the screen!

This tiny version of JavaView is optimized for fast download and contains the
viewer module only, without any dialogs, inspectors and geometry algorithms.
The lite version is mainly used to display precomputed geometry models inside
web pages.

- USE_LINUX now implies NO_FILTER_SHLIBS=yes. It also doesn't use FreeBSD
tools to strip binaries anymore, so it's not neccesary anymore to override
STRIP and STRIP_CMD.
- USE_LINUX_PREFIX implies NO_MTREE now.
- In the USE_LINUX case, USE_XLIB now depends upon the linux X11 libraries
instead upon the native FreeBSD libraries.
- The variable LINUX_BASE_PORT contains a string which is suitable as an
item in *_DEPENDS, so if a port BATCH_DEPENDS or FETCH_DEPENDS upon the
default (or overriden) linux base, ${LINUX_BASE_PORT} should be used
instead of a hardcoded reference.
- Change all ports to comply to the "new world order".
- The Ports Collection now allows to override the default linux_base port.
Specify e.g. OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=rh-9 in /etc/make.conf to use
${PORTSDIR}/emulators/linux_base-rh-9 (the logic is to use
${PORTSDIR}/emulators/linux_base-${OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT}).
- If USE_LINUX or OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE doesn't point to an existing linux_base
port and if USE_LINUX isn't set to "yes" (case insensitive), the port will
be marked as IGNORE. [1]
- Readd USE_LINUX knobs into several ports and make several uses of a
conditional dependency ("USE_LINUX?=") into an unconditional one
("USE_LINUX=") which where removed/changed by Trevor to allow the use of
alternative linux_base ports. While this is a nice goal, the implementation
resulted in missing dependencies. The OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT knob
in this commit is supposed to fix the problem while keeping the feature.
Basicaly this includes a backout of Trevor's commit, to prevent confusion
I mention it here explicitely.
- Use the correct prefix (X11- instead of LOCAL- or LINUX-) for some ports.
Chase dependencies for this.
- Changes to make linux_devtools installable on amd64, remove some stray
device nodes (they don't work on recent OS versions and aren't really
needed).
- Make linux_base-8 PREFIX clean and remove some stray device nodes.
Additionally tell a little bit more about how to setup NIS/YP [2].
- Update the PGSQL dependency in the linux-opengroupware port to a recent
version (the old one isn't available anymore), I don't know if this
works (at least it isn't more broken than before).
- Use PREFIX/usr/share/doc instead of PREFIX/usr/doc in the divx4linux
ports, the former path exists already and gets populated by other
packages too (PREFIX=LINUXPREFIX!).
- Fix some obvious (non-linuxolator) bugs in some linux ports while being
there.
- Bump PORTREVISION where neccesary.

current sources .obj coff-i386 format cannot be changed into .o
elf32-i386 by any of our native tools. Only the devel/mingw32-binutils
port can handle coff-i386 but it cannot generate .elf32-i386. Even
using a middle way format (coff-i386 -> srec -> elf32-i386) does
not help: the .o still do not link correctly.
