The sysutils/tracker port is now a meta port and tracker is now split into
separate ports to allow non-GNOME users to install tracker without pulling
in GNOME components. To upgrade please use the directions below.
portmaster users:
portmaster -o sysutils/tracker-client tracker
portmaster -u sysutils/tracker
portupgrade users:
portupgrade -o sysutils/tracker-client tacker
portupgrade -u sysutils/tracker

FreeBSD. The official GNOME 2.22 release notes can be found at
http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.22/ . On the FreeBSD front,
this release features an updated hal port with support for video4linux
devices, DRM (Direct Rendering), and better support of removable media. Work
is also underway to tie webkit more closely into GNOME. As part of the
GNOME 2.22 upgrade, GStreamer received a rather large upgrade as well.
Be sure to consult UPDATING on the proper steps to upgrade all of your
GNOME ports.
This release would not have been possible without the contributions and
testing efforts of the following people:
Pawel Worach
kan
edwin
Peter Ulrich Kruppa
J. W. Ballantine
Yasuda Keisuke
Andriy Gapon

- Deprecate old unsupported apps and modules (entice, devian, eveil, engage)
- Split evas and ecore to separate modules to handle dependencies properly
- Disable PAM in enlightenment-devel as it don't work anyway (requires root
privilegies)
- Add DBUS support.

GNOME 2.20 release notes can be found at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.20/notes/en/ . Beyond that, this update
includes the new GIMP 2.4 (courtesy of ahze).
The GNOME 2.20 update also includes a huge change in the FreeBSD GNOME
hierarchy. We are now using the more standard DATADIR of ${PREFIX}/share
rather than ${PREFIX}/share/gnome. The result is that fewer patches and
hacks are needed to port GNOME components to FreeBSD. This will mean some
user changes may be required, so be sure to read /usr/ports/UPDATING for
more details.
This release and the things we accomplished in it would not have been
possible without mezz's crazy idea to collapse DATADIR, and his persistence
to make it happen successfully. Ahze and pav also deserve thanks for
their work on porting modules and testing the whole ball of wax on
pointyhat (respectively).
The FreeBSD GNOME team would also like to thank our various testers and
contributors:
Yasuda Keisuke
Frank Jahnke
Pawel Worach
Brian Gruber
Franz Klammer
Yuri Pankov
Nick Barkas
Cristian KLEIN
Tony Maher
Scot Hetzel
Martin Matuska (mm)
Benoit Dejean
Martin Wilke (miwi)

USE_X_PREFIX is not neccesary (these are script-only ports) and it is
removed to reduce build times on clusters.
Ports depending on tkstep80 are very old (~1999), not developed and
unmaintained.

supports them. This is determined by running ``configure --help'' in
do-configure target and set the shell variable _LATE_CONFIGURE_ARGS
which is then passed to CONFIGURE_ARGS.
- Remove --mandir and --infodir in ports' Makefile where applicable
Few ports use REINPLACE_CMD to achieve the same effect, remove them too.
- Correct some manual pages location from PREFIX/man to MANPREFIX/man
- Define INFO_PATH where necessary
- Document that .info files are installed in a subdirectory relative to
PREFIX/INFO_PATH and slightly change add-plist-info to use INFO_PATH and
subdirectory detection.

intended to be a competitor to Konqueror, the default KDE file manager:
Konqueror acts as universal viewer being able to show HTML pages, text
documents, directories and a lot more, whereas Dolphin focuses on being only
a file manager. This approach allows to optimize the user interface for the
task of file management.

amount of work by the FreeBSD GNOME Team and our testers.
On top of the usual GNOME update, we have taken this opportunity to move
GNOME from X11BASE to LOCALBASE. This means roughly 600 ports NOT part of
the GNOME Desktop also need to be changed. The bulk of the move was carried
out by ahze, mezz, and pav, but it would not have been possible without
cooperation from the FreeBSD KDE team who worked with us to make sure
GNOME and KDE can still coexist happily. We would also like to send a
shout out to kris and pointyhat for putting up with multiple test runs
until we got something that was solid.
Back to GNOME 2.16. This release brings a huge amount of new functionality
to FreeBSD. The standard release notes can be read at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.16/ . But on top of what you will read there,
jylefort and marcus have completed work on a port of HAL to FreeBSD. This
will allow FreeBSD to take advantage of closer hardware interaction such
as auto-mounting CD-ROMs, USB drives, and music players; auto-playing
audio CDs; and managing laptop power consumption.
But where would this all be without our loyal testers and contributors?
Therefore, the FreeBSD GNOME team would like to thank the following users:

Rename this ports to use the real vendor package name. The advantage of this
is to allow our users' keyword search works and easier for users to file the
Bugzilla report when they use our name of ports. Debian, Gentoo, NetBSD and
other OSs have the correct package name, but not in our ports tree.
My team, FreeBSD GNOME Team, have agreed with it.
As for other ports, chase the rename.

installed libraries are now named libitcl.so.3 & libitk.so.3 instead
of having the version be part of the libname (libitcl33.so.1). The
itclConfig.sh and itkConfig.sh are now also installed, which is required
by some software (such as the insight -- a gdb frontend).
Fix-up the (unchanged) iwidgets port to reflect the above and improve it
to not require its own copy of the itcl tree at install time.
Approved by: maintainer
Fix-up the tkdesk port to reflect the itcl/itk changes, which required
updating it to the 2.0p2 (from 2.0). (This lovely piece of software
badly needs a caring maintainer, BTW.) While here, teach tkdesk to use
installed blt instead of building its own.
The only iwidget/itk/itcl consumer that remains broken is net/smm++ (a
MUD client). This should change as soon as the maintainer get back to
me.

http://www.gnome.org/start/2.14/ for the official release notes, and a list
of all the gooides in this new release. In particular, GNOME 2.14 focused
on performance, and they did not miss the mark. There's some new eye candy,
but most of the big things are waiting until GNOME 2.16. On the FreeBSD
side, we tried to clean up all the crashers we could. In particular, we
really improved GNOME's 64-bit support.
The good news is that this release does not bring any big shared library
version bumps, so you can almost do a simple portupgrade to get to 2.14.
There are a few minor gotchas that will be documented in UPDATING shortly.
The FreeBSD GNOME Team would like th thank the following users for their
patches, feedback, and sometimes incessant complaing about crashes (you
know who you are).

Unix, written in C++. It is aimed at nonsense-free file management. It
is mostly inspired by the List View in Mac OS Finder, but also has
Unix-handy features such as an interactive location bar with Bash-style
tab completion, and a simple but elegant user interface.

PR.
Thanks for contributing.
Since the acroread7 port is a somewhat important port for our users, I
will hand it over to emulation@ if no _active_ *committer* takes it
before the ports freeze.
While I'm here:
- fix a little nit in the csound port (I think the intention was to
create no backup file instead of creating one with a "-e" extension)
- set ARCH to i386 in the amd64 case for the acroread7 port. This
is a work-around to be able to install everything when a dependency
is not already installed (ARCH is read-only in sub-makes, so the
dependencies can't change it). This should be removed when the
dependencies are fixed or converted to use bsd.linux-rpm.mk. [1]

in bsd.autotools.mk essentially makes this a no-op given that all the
old variables set a USE_AUTOTOOLS_COMPAT variable, which is parsed in
exactly the same way as USE_AUTOTOOLS itself.
Moreover, USE_AUTOTOOLS has already been extensively tested by the GNOME
team -- all GNOME 2.12.x ports use it.
Preliminary documentation can be found at:
http://people.FreeBSD.org/~ade/autotools.txt
which is in the process of being SGMLized before introduction into the
Porters Handbook.

and new features. Don't believe me? Then see for yourself at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.12/notes/en/.
DO NOT USE portupgrade by itself to upgrade to GNOME 2.12. Instead, use
the gnome_upgrade.sh script from
http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/gnome_upgrade212.sh. This script will
circumvent some potential pitfalls users can see if they use portupgrade
by itself.
In keeping with tradition, GNOME 2.12 for FreeBSD comes with a special
splash screen. The winner of this release's contest is
Dominique Goncalves <dominique.goncalves@gmail.com>. His splash screen
was inspired by http://art.gnome.org/contests/2.12-splash/83.

- Fix the installation of error like this below by add graphics/netpbm in the
BUILD_DEPENDS.
pnmtopng: not found
pngtopnm: not found
pnmscale: not found
[...repeat...]
- Fix the ability of disable/enable xine, so you don't have to depend on xine
when the xine thumbnail plugin is disable (aka WITHOUT_XINE).
- Fix all of plugins/thumbnails build by add @LDFLAGS@ in each of
Makefile.in's LDFLAGS. That also make xine, music stuff and etc actually
work to create the thumbnails or/and do something.
- A few other fixes that make it builds better.
- Do not extract the CVS, now our filesystem and plist look prettier.
- Add new knobs:
WITH_DEBUG
WITH_ECORE_MAINLOOP
WITHOUT_EXTRACTOR
WITHOUT_ID3
WITHOUT_VORBIS
WITHOUT_XINE
Didn't add knobs for dbus, gnomevfs, avi and etc because they either doesn't
build or cause it crashes. As for KDE stuff like dcop and kio, I am lacking
to test them so someone will have to check and test it.
- Fix the plist.
- Bump the PORTREVISION.
