From 7e39466122dc695c0335b0aa7a309fd825bc87af Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: andreas Date: Tue, 5 May 1998 20:05:23 +0000 Subject: Import of ntp v4 It's the latest release of ntp software Many new features, but not as mature as v3, therefore some of the new features have been included into v3. After v4 is better tested or stable, we could import it into -current under /contrib. Pouls nice idea to make a port out of it to test ntp v4. --- net/ntp/pkg-descr | 18 ++++++++++++++++++ 1 file changed, 18 insertions(+) create mode 100644 net/ntp/pkg-descr (limited to 'net/ntp/pkg-descr') diff --git a/net/ntp/pkg-descr b/net/ntp/pkg-descr new file mode 100644 index 000000000000..b1774d5d2d43 --- /dev/null +++ b/net/ntp/pkg-descr @@ -0,0 +1,18 @@ +The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize the time of a +computer client or server to another server or reference time source, +such as a radio or satellite receiver or modem. + +It provides client accuracies typically within a millisecond on LANs +and up to a few tens of milliseconds on WANs relative to a primary +server synchronized to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) via a Global +Positioning Service (GPS) receiver, for example. + +Typical NTP configurations utilize multiple redundant servers and diverse +network paths, in order to achieve high accuracy and reliability. + +Some configurations include cryptographic authentication to prevent +accidental or malicious protocol attacks. + +See homepage for more infos: + + http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~ntp/ -- cgit
